INTERNATIONAL QUILTERS DAY 2025
International Quilters Day Report – 2025
International Quilters Day 2025 is a special occasion dedicated to the celebration of quilting; an art form that has been cherished for centuries. This day brings together quilters all over the world to share their passion, creativity, and skills. Held annually on the third Saturday of March; this year’s event fell on Saturday, 15th March 2025.
International Quilters Day was first established in 1991 by the American National Quilting Association (NQA). The idea was to create a day that honours the rich history and cultural significance of quilting. Over the years, the celebration has grown in popularity, with quilters from various countries participating.
The Bureau of Meteorology predicted a very hot day for Adelaide and, true to their word, our International Quilters Day experienced a temperature of 41.7° Celsius!! However, that didn’t deter our IQD Team or quilters from around South Australia. Over 240 quilters, family, visitors and friends dropped in to the hall which was very comfortably air conditioned; some stayed a short while and some stayed for a good part of the day.
Thanks to Lyn from Quilters Quarters for bringing her shop to enable quilters to enjoy some retail therapy. Special thanks to McLaren Vale Patchworkers for allowing us to hang their beautiful quilts around the hall for everyone to enjoy. Thanks to our talented demonstrators who worked for the entire day showing their skill in various quilting techniques. Visitors enjoyed a beautiful Devonshire Tea, raffles and Library book sales. Congratulations to all the raffle winners.
Special thanks to all the helpers who made it such an enjoyable experience. Thank you to the team who worked in the kitchen, serving our visitors and washing dishes – nothing was too much trouble for them. And a very special thank you to the partners of some of the quilters who did some of the heavy lifting – it was very much appreciated.
We look forward to doing it all again next year (let’s hope the Met Bureau can be a bit more co-operative!)
